Location notes
Gobowen is on the Shrewsbury to Chester line, north of Shrewsbury and close to the market town of Oswestry. The station used to be the junction for a service to Oswestry, though these connections are now provided by buses, despite the line still being intact, though disused. The station has been preserved very well being an excellent example of a Great Western station.
Railway type and traffic
There is usually an hourly local service provided by class 158 units, and increasingly class 175s, though there are a few gaps in the afternoons. There are freight services in the form of Steel workings from Shotton to South Wales and also Timber workings to Chirk to the north have to come to Gobowen to run round before heading back to Warrington. There is a small coal-yard by the station which in 2004 still received coal by rail in HBA hoppers.
Environment
Gobowen is a small village. The station is fairly busy when trains are due.
Road directions
Gobowen is located just off the A5 north of Shrewsbury on the B5069, which crosses the railway at the station.

Photographic notes
The station is well worth photographing due to its well preserved buildings and canopies. There is a signal box controlling the level crossing and a couple of lower-quadrant semaphore signals to the north. The sun is usually best for southbound trains. There is a footbridge a short distance to the north of the station. To reach this, head north on the east side of the line down a lane behind the houses and look out for the footpath between two gardens.
