Location notes
Poppleton is a village on the western outskirts of York and is located on the line from York to Harrogate.
Railway type and traffic
Usual traffic on the line is an hourly service provided by class 144 units. There are however occasional railtours on the line.
Environment
The bridge on the A59 looking towards Poppleton Station is in the country, the village of Poppleton itself being quiet, but being on a Trunk Road the bridge is busy with traffic. There is however a reasonable sized footpath.
Road directions
The bridge is on the A59 York to Harrogate, Skipton and Preston road about 3 miles west of York and about a mile west of its junction with the A1237 York Ring-Road.

Parking
There is a farm track on the south side of the road by the bridge where you can park.
Public transport
There is an hourly service by train to Poppleton station from York to Harrogate and Leeds, also Firstbus service 10 operates every 20 minutes from York and turns right off the A59 shortly before the bridge and up the lane past the station. From the station, turn left and walk down the lane to the main road. Turn right onto the A59 to the bridge (10 minute walk).

Photographic notes
The line here is roughly east-west so the light at this location is best from just before midday until mid-late afternoon for trains heading west from York. The station at Poppleton itself is very quiet and a good shot of a train entering the station from York and taken from the end of the platform can be had at the same time of day. There are semaphore signals and manually operated crossing gates.
