Location notes
About 8 miles south of York and a mile south of Copmanthorpe
Railway type and traffic
The Church Fenton route is four-track at these points whereas the ECML is only two. A variety of passenger and freight services pass through this location. Usually Virgin East Coast Expresses, Virgin Cross Country and a fair variety of freight.

Environment
A small village in rural North Yorkshire.
Road directions
Colton Junction (location A) is accessed directly from the unclassified road from the westbound A64 (Signposted Colton & Appleby Roebuck)
Location B is on the connecting road between Colton and Bolton Percy. This is a public bridleway and an access road for a railway works
Location C is on an unclassified road from Tadcaster (A659) to Bolton Percy.

All locations are road bridges over the railway and afford some interesting views.
At Colton Junction (A) the East Coast Main Line continues south and the York to Church Fenton along the Normanton line, which diverges in a westerly direction, to destinations such as Leeds, Ferrybridge, Knottingley, Castleford, Sheffield.
Locations B & C only afford views of the line to Church Fenton.
There are numerous other over bridges for the ECML in the area
