Location notes
West Worthing is situated on the Southern West Coastway line in West Sussex, England.
Worthing is located to the east, this is the main station which serves the town of Worthing and is just about visible from the eastbound platform.
West Worthing is a busy station, it has a middle siding to the west of the station where some trains terminate. They then reverse onto the Brighton bound line where the train forms a stopping service to Brighton.
There used to be a carriage shed to the west of the station on the north side, however this was demolished in early 2008. The disused sidings however still remain, although the future of the site is uncertain.
Durrington-On-Sea station can just about be seen on both platforms to the west as the line curves round toward Portsmouth.
Railway type and traffic
Passenger traffic is mainly Class 377's and Class 313's, although there are a few long distance services each day between Brighton and the West Country, these are worked by Class 158's and occasionally Class 150's.
There are a few VSOE workings throughout the year, these are normally hauled by Class 67's and destinations vary between Hove and Chichester. In addition there is also the odd railtour or steam special as well.
Freight traffic is irregular and usually Class 66 or Class 73 hauled engineering trains. These can sometimes be seen passing through on weeknights, early weekday mornings or at weekends. There are also very occasional light engine workings.
Network Rail test trains make an appearance every now and then. MPV's can be seen passing through on sandite or de-icing duties 'in season'.
Environment
It is located in the west end of Worthing, and has a very busy level crossing which is virtually always down. The road junction is also traffic light controlled so worth avoiding during rush hour.
During the day the area is quite pleasant, although it can get a bit rough after dark especially on a Friday or Saturday.
Both Worthing and Durrington-On-Sea stations are reasonably close to West Worthing and are within walking distance if you decide to visit there as well. However Durrington-On-Sea station is a bit more difficult to get to as you have to go down a few backstreets and alleyways to get there.
Road directions
If you are coming from Brighton and travelling along the A27 follow signs to Worthing and turn left at Grove Lodge roundabout. Turn right, left again and continue straight on over both mini roundabouts. Continue straight down South Farm Road passed Worthing High School and towards Worthing station. Just before Worthing level crossing turn right at the corner shop, go all the way down Becket Road to the end. Turn left and you will see West Worthing level crossing, the station is on the right hand side.

Parking
There is a station car park, and various back streets to park down, but do not park down Becket Road as there is rarely a free space to park your car, double parking on both sides and your car is likely to get knocked by another car coming down the centre of the road.
Public transport
Train:
There are lots of trains that stop at the station from Brighton, London Victoria, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Bus:
There is also a few bus stops nearby so you could get the bus here. Make sure you get on the right bus and check your local bus timetable to/from West Worthing.

Amenities
There are no toilets on the station however there are some nearby cafés which do have toilets. There are quite a few takeaways around the area so there are plenty of places to get something to eat. There is also a Co-op north of the station where the bus stop is so you can even get your shopping if you feel like it.
Accommodation
There is plenty of accommodation in Worthing town centre and on the seafront.

Photographic notes
Light is mainly good all year round however it is quite difficult to photograph some days in the evening during mid summer as the sun is very bright, but do not be put off by this as alternatively you can photograph in the opposite direction. You can get to both platforms via the subway or level crossing, however be careful because if you are on the westbound platform you cannot see round the curve facing east and a fast train may catch you by surprise at any time.
There are also two footbridges nearby to take overhead shots of passing trains, they are 'Jacobs Ladder Footbridge' located to the east of West Worthing and 'Elm Grove Footbridge' located to the west. There is however bars blocking any decent photos on both bridges but it is possible to take photos through them. Both footbridges are visible from the station.
