Location notes
Worthing is situated along the Southern West Coastway line in West Sussex, England.
West Worthing is located to the west of the station and is just about visible from the eastbound platforms.
The main town centre is south of the station and is within walking distance, other options of getting there are by bus from the nearby bus stops or by taxi as there are taxi ranks at the front of the station.
Railway type and traffic
Passenger traffic is mainly Class 377's and Class 313's, although there are a few long distance services each day between Brighton and the West Country, these are worked by Class 158's and occasionally Class 150's.
There are a few VSOE workings throughout the year, these are normally hauled by Class 67's and destinations vary between Hove and Chichester. In addition there is also the odd railtour or steam special as well.
Freight traffic is irregular and usually Class 66 or Class 73 hauled engineering trains. These can sometimes be seen passing through on weeknights, early weekday mornings or at weekends. There are also very occasional light engine workings.
Network Rail test trains make an appearance every now and then. MPV's can be seen passing through on sandite or de-icing duties 'in season'.
Environment
The station is north of the main town and has 3 platforms. Platform 1 not being used as much as platform 2 and 3. The station itself is very busy, there is a subway that links all platforms so all platforms are easily accessible. You are only allowed on the station with a ticket and the only way to get on the station to take photos is to get the train there or buy a platform ticket. Alternatively you could take photos from the nearby road bridge to the east of the station.
The area can sometimes get rough after dark, although there is usually security on the station.
Road directions
If you are coming from Brighton on the A27 follow signs to Worthing and at Grove Lodge roundabout turn left and the right and left again and carry on over both mini roundabouts and continue straight on down south farm road. Carry straight on towards station past Worthing High School and towards the level crossing. Turn left over the level crossing and the station is down the short and narrow road.

Parking
There is a car park to the north of the station but this is a pay and display at certain times of the day but is a reasonable price. Most back streets are also a pay and display in the town centre and the south side of the level crossing. But there are free parking slots on the north side of the station down various streets which are within walking distance.
Public transport
Train:Worthing is the main station serving the town and all trains stop here from places like Brighton, London Victoria, Littlehampton, Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bristol etc. so there are direct rail links from most major cities and towns.
Bus:If you were to get the bus here it would be difficult to get onto the platforms as there is ticket barriers, and staff checking tickets most hours of the day. The station staff may allow you on the platform without a ticket if you kindly ask permission or alternatively you could buy a platform ticket.

Amenities
There are toilets on both sides of the station. There are also toilets in the town centre as well as many restaurants and shops. There are a few small shops nearby if you don't feel like walking into the town centre to get something to eat or drink.
Accommodation
There is plenty of accommodation in the town centre and on the seafront.

Photographic notes
Light is mainly good all year round and has good places to take photos such as the nearby road bridge for overhead shots. The sun may prohibit photos in the evening or some days in the summer. You can shoot photos of trains coming in both directions. The best available angles for taking pictures are the overhead shots from the nearby bridge as you have a full view of the station.
