Parking
There a number of local roads you can park in, called The Hillway & Kelvin Grove which are on the north side of the line. You can also park in The Crossways & Newtown which are on the south side of the line. If you don't mind walking a little bit then about 10 minutes if that away is a huge car park behind the shops then just walk through the precinct, then through a subway and straight up Station Road. There is a bus route number 3 at present also an irregular 22 from the Precinct almost to the railway station but this is very dear for normal paying adults, so unless you have a bus pass, it would pay you to walk it!
Public transport
Portchester has direct services from London Victoria, Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Redhill, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Horsham, Barnham, Chichester, Southbourne, Emsworth, Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth & Southsea, Fratton, Hilsea, Cosham, Havant, London Waterloo, Woking, Farnborough, Basingstoke, Micheldever, Winchester, Eastleigh, Hedge End, Botley, Southampton Central, St Denys, Bitterne, Woolston, Sholing, Netley, Hamble, Bursledon, Swanwick & Fareham at least once an hour Monday to Saturday and for most place Sundays as well, but on Sunday a change at Fratton might be needed.
Buses 3 & F3 also serve the station from Portsmouth, Cosham & Fareham. The F3 only runs three times a day. But the 3 now runs every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 20 minutes on Sunday's.
Bus X4, runs every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and Hourly on Sundays, serves Portchester Precinct from Portsmouth, Fareham & various small villages to Southampton.

Amenities
There are toilets available till 18:00 along with a Co-Op, Iceland and a few smaller shops in the shopping area along with a fish & chip shop and a pub! The best fish & chip shop is about a 5 minutes drive away in the Cosham direction on the A27 at Mother Kelly's. Direct buses operated between Portchester Precinct & Mother Kelly's every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday on route X4, please note this has to be picked up in Portchester Precinct as it runs on the A27 only.
Accommodation
Nothing of note in Portchester but Portsmouth only 15 - 30 minutes run on train, X4 Bus or car so nothing to worry about.

Photographic notes
Normally pretty good light all round even at night, it goes quite after about 22:00.
Watch out when steam is due it can get very busy! Due to the gradient through the platform and a close on 2 mile straight track!
