New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
On the East Coast Main Line, Newark lies between Lincoln and Nottingham, North Gate station is near to the town centre.
Railway type and traffic
Normal ECML traffic as well as some central trains services, a few freight trains per day, including GBRf and some Oil trains going onto the Lincoln Line.
Environment
Fairly close to the town centre, the station if staffed and is about as safe is you get for stations.
Road directions
The station is VERY well signposted from all approach roads.

The station is easily accessible by public transport, with plenty of buses going to the station as well as trains from the main ECML destinations.

Photographic notes
Its best to, when you arrive, ask a member of staff if its ok for you to take photos or film trains, in that case no one will bother you throughout the day.
I would suggest standing on the North end of platform 1 as it gives a good shot of trains and there is also a bench for you to sit on and the toilets are right next to you.

Note about how to tell when trains are coming:
The signal on the south end of platform 2 is normally amber, if it goes double amber or green there is a main line train coming. If it goes red there is a train either coming off platform 3 onto the mainline, or vice versa.
There is also a signal for northbound trains which is located north of the station, it normally displays double amber, if green a main line train is coming. If red there is a train about to cross the Newark flat crossing going to either Lincoln or Nottingham.
