Location notes
A small station on the Ipswich to Felixstowe Line, in Suffolk.
Railway type and traffic
A single unit, usually 153 or 156, will travel up to Ipswich and Down to Felixstowe throughout the day. It is usually the same unit all day, baring failures.
However, you will see ANY Freight going in and out of Felixstowe Docks - put simply, it has to come through Derby Road Station.
Freight wise, all the traffic from Felixstowe Docks pass through the station.
Expect mostly DB Schenker and Freightliner 66s, with the odd class 70. GBRf have daily workings and DRS locomotives appear from time to time on hire to Freightliner. With Felixstowe growing as a port and a destination for rail freight, this may well increase.
Environment
Suburbs of Ipswich. Seems fairly quiet, but best to avoid Norwich City colours!
Road directions
Come off the A14, after crossing the Orwell Bridge, and take the next junction on to the A1189 (1st exit off roundabout). The go straight across the next two roundabouts and left (1st exit) at the third, which is just after you pass under the line. Continue along the A1156, Felixstowe Road to the next roundabout. There will be a church on your right, take the 1st exit and continue on the Felixstowe Road. Derby road is about a mile along on the right and the station is signposted.

Photographic notes
Station is on a curve, but line towards Felixstowe is visible for some distance. You will hear freight coming before you see it. Being the last point on the line before it singles Felixstowe bound trains often pause here, awaiting a train from the docks to clear the single section.
