We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Shepherdswell is a quiet rural village in East Kent, situated around 10 minutes from Dover, on the London Victoria to Dover line. It is between Canterbury East and Dover Priory, and is also home to the East Kent Railway.
If you are interested in heritage electric multiple units and diesel locomotives, Shepherdswell is the ideal place to visit, as the East Kent Railway is right opposite the mainline station. It is around a 1 minute walk to the main gate, where you will find the site and rolling stock.
The mainline station is reasonably quiet, with the odd person turning up each hour.
Railway type and traffic
The line is not good at all for freight, however the odd engineers train can be seen from time to time. SouthEastern Trains operate hourly stopping services to the station on most days, using class 375 or occasionally class 465 units.

Environment
Shepherdswell is a quiet country location in a little village. There are fields further up the line, but most of the station area is slightly better built up. There appears to be no problems with anti-social behaviour here.
Road directions
Shepherdswell is just off of the A2.
There is a set of traffic lights near Lydden, not far from Dover, and you must turn (left coming from London, or right coming from Dover) at these lights, heading for Shepherdswell and Eythorne. After following the road for a few miles, you will enter the village, and the turning is to the left just after the shop.

Parking
There is a small car-park at the station, and that could easily be used due to the lack of cars that park there. The area is pretty safe, so no need for any worrying about the safeness of your vehicle.
Public transport
By train, take a London Victoria service from Dover Priory, and alight at Shepherdswell, which is the second station.
Alternatively, take a train from London Victoria on a Dover Priory service and alight at Shepherdswell.
There does not appear to be any decent bus services, but there may be at least one.

Amenities
As far as I am aware, there are no public toilets in the area. However, when the East Kent Railway is open, there is a toilet block there.
Regarding food, there is a shop at the top of the hill, as well as a pub. There are no take-aways that I know of.
Accommodation
I do not believe there are any hotels or B&Bs in the village, however, there are plenty in nearby Dover.

Photographic notes
The light is good most of the day so the sun should not be a problem.
There is a tunnel at the Southbound end of the station, which can be a good background for photos.
Looking Northbound, there is the traditional working signal box, a few unused sidings dating from the Colonel Stephens era, and a nice straight view up the line towards Snowdown.
There are many nice photos available of the heritage stock on the East Kent Railway next door.
