New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site -
m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
This location is just off Storforth Lane, Chesterfield. It is the old access road to Hasland Motive Power Depot from the '50s.
You get clear views of the lines for Derby from Chesterfield (the 2 furthest away) and the Nottingham Lines (the closest 2 lines) you are 2 sets of signals south of Chesterfield Station so northbound signals, the ones you can see, are set at Danger as standard.
North of Chesterfield the lines split for Barrow Hill so there are numerous sets of junctions in the area to divert trains on to the line there.
Railway type and traffic
Passenger operating companies using the lines are East Midland Trains and Cross Country.
There is regular freight with DB Schenker and Freightliner motive power.
In addition there are also trains from Derby RTC site using the lines to and from Barrow Hill for testing so NR yellow and DRS powered traffic occurs too.
Environment
You are parking on a single track road with parking near open fields the area has a lot of people walking their dogs so it can get dirty.
Not recommended after dusk as the location has no lighting.
Road directions
To access Storforth Lane from either the A61 junction, the traffic lights in Birdholme, go under the railway bridge and turn right then immediately right again and drive to the end of the metalled road.
OR
The Green Hasland (B6038) turn right on to Storforth Lane then just before the railway bridge turn left then immediately right and drive to the end of the metalled road.
