Location notes
Following the demolition of the original station building this is now a crossing only location. Felixstowe is Suffolk's, and indeed England's, largest port complex. Located at the coastal tip of a flat peninsula bordered by the Rivers Deben and Orwell and the North sea, with the county town of Ipswich on its northern inland edge. By road the port is about 10 miles west of Ipswich.
Railway type and traffic
Being a container port the traffic is purely intermodal workings. DB Schenker and Freightliner and GBRf operate services with class 66s dominating, however class 70s are known to appear on the occasional working for Freightliner. The station line is the main access route to the South Docks terminal. It is possible to access the Central terminal but this is a secondary route and is only used in an emergency, such as in the event of a derailment or failure.

There are plenty of fish and chip shops on the sea front and a McDonalds drive through is located off the first roundabout into Felixstowe. There is also a small local store at the sea front end of station road.

Felixstowe Beach Station
Trains pass through the station in both directions hauling frieghtliners to and from the docks. They can also sit in the Creek Sidings just south of the station for a long time. The station has been disused now for many years and as a result the ipswich platform end is quite overgrown with weeds, there are currently (Oct 2015) some portacabins in the station area which may indicate redevelopment, but the 'car park' remains closed off. These portacabins would be visible in Fig1. The tracks run north to south and so early in the morning the trains pass through the shadow of the station. The crossing is well lit so trains can be viewed at all hours.
