New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Water Orton is a busy village between Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill. The northern line at this location is the line to Tamworth and Derby, whilst the southern line runs from Birmingham to Nuneaton.
The two crossing are a very short walk (or quick dash!) apart. There is a footbridge over the Leicester line, and a crossing on the Nuneaton line.
Railway type and traffic
The station is served by Cross Country, and many units including 170s can be observed, as can Virgin voyagers and HSTs.
The location is very good for it`s selection of freight, currently DB Schenker, Freightliner, GBRF and Colas Rail services passing with class 47, 56, 57, 60, 66 & 67 on a regular basis. Freightliner services are Intermodal, Coal and Ballast.
GBRF services are Engineers
Colas services are steel.
Environment
The locations are quiet, and the crossings are only really used by local residents walking their dogs.
Road directions
From Coleshill (Just off the M6) take the B4117 passing through Gilson (or alternatively take the the B4117 from further up the A446) both routes will lead you directly to Water Orton. Head through the busy village centre, and you will see the station to your right. Turn here so the satation building is on your left, then right immediately after crossing the bridge. Follow this road (Marsh Lane) until you notice a lake/reservoir on the left hand side. Pull over here, just before the cottages on the right. Alternatively, access can be gained from the residential area to the south of the lines, via Salisbury Drive.

Amenities
There is a sandwich shop which closes at 16:00 and a very nice fish and chip shop in the village. There is a public loo next to the station carpark which you have to pay 30p to use.

Photographic notes
Not the best place for video here, as the nearby M42 is a constant source of noise.
Shadows from the trees can be troublesome in low sun on the Nuneaton line.
