Photographic notes
Knebworth station faces roughly north south and as such better suits southbound workings during the middle of the day. The text below the pictures describes the shots.
About a mile to the south is Woolmer Green Junction where the East Coast Main Line
Bottlenecks from four to two tracks. As a result charters are
usually pathed onto the slow lines and will not be travelling at great speed, unlike workings on the fast road that could be travelling at up to 110mph.

Fig 1 - Looking north - Image © Albert Dawson
A south bound working on the fast lines from the end of the north bound platforms. The line is pretty much straight for a mile or so so the potential for telephoto shots is here.
Note: To get this shot you either need to stand pretty much on the 'yellow line' or crouch down below a large mirror, as used by driver only trains so the driver can see the doors.

Same position as fig 1, but a slow line working.
Fig 3 - Looking north - Image © Albert Dawson
From the end of the north bound platforms, this shot shows a north bound working 'going away'.
Fig 4 - Looking south - Image © Albert Dawson
From the end of the south bound platform. A fast north bound working. There is a large amount of OLE ganteries here, so you can frame shots between the poles if you like.

From a similar position to fig 4 a charter on the slows heading north.

From the station car park!
Charters are invariably pathed on the slow roads making this shot possible. But you will need your wits about you as there is no notice of the working approaching!
