The location is a foot crossing just outside of Hinckley on the Nuneaton to Leicester line.
Railway type and traffic
The line see's a half hourly CrossCountry service in each direction between Birmingham New Street and Leicester/Stansted Airport.
You do also get a bit of freight consisting of ballast trains to and from Mountsorrel and Stud Farm, empty steel carriers from Corby to Wales plus it is a diversionary route if the mainline from Derby via Burton is closed.

Environment
A countryside foot crossing location just off of Burbage Common Lane.
Road directions
From the A47 North Perimeter Road, take the roundabout with the B4668 Leicester Road towards Hinckley Town Centre. Take the left hand turn opposite Hinckley Rugby Club, this looks like a lay-by but there is a lane hidden by bushes next to the skip hire place. Follow the lane for about a mile or so and you'll get to a tight S-bend over the railway. Once over the bridge follow the road alongside the railway until you reach the bend. This is where you will park up in the refuge by the open field entrance.
Be advised Burbage Common Lane is a Single Track road, and although quiet at the best of times always expect traffic coming the other way or turning out of the 2 car parks.

Parking
You can park by the field entrance, it is wide open with no gates or fences but of course show courtesy to other road users on the lane and users who may want to access the field.
Public transport
Leicester Road is served by Arriva Hinckleybus Route 2 and 3 between Burbage and Barwell approximately every 20 minutes. Ask the driver for the Rugby Club and then walk as per the driving directions.
If you fancy a longer walk, Stagecoach operate route 48 between Coventry and Leicester. Alight at Ashby Road by the Asda turn off and walk up Barwell Lane and Stoneygate to Leicester Road. Would take about 40 minutes.

Photographic notes
You can shoot trains in both directions, although if the sun is out, morning shots favour Leicester-bound trains and afternoon shots towards Nuneaton.. If the sun is hidden by cloud, you can shoot either way (or either side of the crossing).
