New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
An outer suburban station on the East Coast Main Line.
Railway type and traffic
Passenger:
East Coast Inter-City services using class 91 + MkIV coaches (loco usually on north end), HSTs ); First Capital Connect inner and outer suburban services using class 313 and 365 EMUs; and Hull Trains class 222 DMUs.

Freight:
Almost none during day light hours - the limited freight workings usually go via Hertford North. However, in the autumn there are usually daytime water cannon trains this way.
Environment
A large commuter village in Hertfordshire. The station is staffed during peak hours and has CCTV coverage.
Road directions
Southbound From the A1(M) Junction 3:
Come off at the junction and head south on the road that runs parallel to the motorway passing the university on your left. At the next roundabout take the first exit and follow the directions below.

Northbound From the A1(M) Junction 2:
Take the second exit at the roundabout, straight across and head down the road to the next roundabout. At this roundabout take the third exit on to the dual carriageway. The road singles, just after you cross the ECML, carry on until the next roundabout. Here take the second exit (right turn) and the next right is the turning into the station car park.

Amenities
The Travellers Lane industrial estate will often have 'burger van' type catering. There are a couple of village shops in Welham Green - turn right out of the station and walk up the road.

Photographic notes
The line runs north to south through this location, so is best suited for a southbound shot to get the sun right. Having the fast roads in the centre means there is a possibility of a passing slow service blocking your view, this is unlikely but possible. There is little extraneous noise that would hamper video.
