New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
Situated on the main Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh to Stirling routes. Just to the east of Polmont station.
Railway type and traffic
Passenger:
A variety of ScotRail DMUs, working between Edinburgh and Glasgow, Stirling and Inverness. East Coast services (HST) between London and Inverness.
In the summer months (for the early risers) it is possible to photograph the Sleeper services to Fort William and Inverness. The 'Royal Scotsman' also passes this way , on most it's journeys to and from Edinburgh.
Freight:
DB Schenker MGR traffic from Ayrshire to Longannet. Freightliner hauled cement and DB Schenker hauled aviation fuel also pass by, but only a few times a week.

Environment
Rural, an open fields and farmland area.
Road directions
From the M9, junction 4:
Take the A803 towards Polmont, almost immediately take the first left (narrow country road). This is Nicolton road, follow this road until you come to the railway overbridge.
Alternatively, if you take the A801 from the roundabout. On the left, a little further on, just next to the railway overbridge, there is a small parking and picnic area. Park here and go back to the overbridge. Fig 3. is taken from the opposite side of the main road.

Photographic notes
Lighting condition are good for most of the day in both directions. For video - the location at fig 1 or 2 should be fine, some traffic but relatively quiet, the other location fig 3 being next to a very busy main road , is not so ideal.
