TS164 - Acton Main Line

Location Notes:
Located just over 4 miles outside of Paddington on the Great Western Main Line.

Railway type and traffic
There is an range of passenger services running through the station, this includes: First Great Western 125s and 180s, Thames Trains 168's, Heathrow Express 332s. There is also a range of freight passing through which joins the line from the North London Line via a curve at the east end of the station
To the west of the station is a large yard that hosts a number of stone trains.

TS1167 - Amberley Station

Location Notes:
Amberley lies near the south coast between Arundel and Pulborough on the main line to London Victoria and is about 10 miles east of Chichester as the crow flies.

Railway type and traffic
The traffic is unlikely to be vary much from regular Class 377 EMU's Southern services running from Bognor Regis, Portsmouth and Littlehampton.

TS371 - Ashurst

Location Notes:
Ashurst is on the line from Oxted to Uckfield and is located west of Tunbridge Wells.

Railway type and traffic
The line is worked by Southern's new 171 units, having replaced the 'Thumpers' at the end of 2004. There is an hourly service throughout the day shuttling between Oxted and Uckfield using 2 units, with additional peak-time workings to London Bridge. There are plans for all journeys to extend to London when sufficient units become available. The trains are usually timed to pass at Ashurst.

TS1136 - Balcombe

Location Notes:
Balcombe is situated on the Brighton Mainline in West Sussex, England. The station serves the village of Balcombe and is 17 miles (27 km) north of Brighton. The nearest towns are Haywards Heath, Crawley and East Grinstead.

Railway type and traffic
Very busy mainline with regular Class 377s, 442s and 319s at roughly 5-10 minute intervals for most of the day. A majority of trains dont stop at this station.
There are a few VSOE workings throughout the year, these are normally hauled by Class 67's and destinations vary between Hove and Chichester. In addition there is also the odd railtour or steam special as well.
There are 2 booked freight services on this section of the Brighton Mainline. The first one is an aggregates train to the Hanson roadstone plant at Ardingly, which is on the former branch to Horsted Keynes. The train arrives at Haywards Heath, where the engine runs round and the train then heads north down the branch. Here the engine runs round again after unloading and brings the train back to Haywards Heath, where the process is repeated for the return journey. Class 59s are the scheduled motive power although Class 66s sometimes work the service. The freight service runs on weekdays, and the loaded working is timetabled to pass through early morning around 04:30, although it does sometimes run later. The empty working is timetabled to pass through around 10:00, this also sometimes runs later.
The other booked freight is an incinerator ash working to/from Newhaven (East Sussex). The freight service is normally hauled by Class 66s although Class 59s do sometimes make an appearance. The empty working is timetabled to pass through around 23:30, the loaded working is timetabled to pass through around 05:30.
Engineering trains can sometimes be seen passing through on weeknights, early weekday mornings or at weekends. There are also very occasional light engine workings.

TS1191 - Barnehurst Station

Location Notes:
In South East London, near to Dartford, on a mainly passenger line, but with some freight, and a great view.

Railway type and traffic
Its a suburban line, one of three to Dartford. The majority of traction is Southeastern class 376 and class 465 / Class 466.
Freightliner services (Monday to Friday, Class 66) pass at around 11:40 and 19:10 towards London from Grain. On some occasions, DB Schenker Class 66s passes at around 17:10 for Didcot with Cargowaggons.
When the Sidcup and Woolwich lines are closed for Engineering works or are experiencing diversion, the Bexleyheath line is used. There is also additional freight at weekends in the form of Hoo Junction based Civil Engineers trains, or additional Freightliner services, usually to Scunthorpe or Crewe.
DRS do not operate, GBRf do use the line for the Civil Engineers trains, but have no WTT services. Interestingly, a new intermodal / supermarket distribution facility at Slade Green will direct many new intermodal services to the line.

It may not be a huge freight place, but staying in the area does afford great connections to many other places where freight is far more frequent, and you can use Erith for Angerstein traffic, or Stone Crossing for Hoo and Thamesport / Grain traffic. Also, it is in the Travelcard Zones, so cheap train fares to London for all forms of freight is available.

TS1340 - Bedelands Farm Crossing

Location Notes:
A simple foot crossing over the Brighton main line just to the North of Wiveslfield Station on the northern edge of Burgess Hill. A style on either side of the line neds to be crossed to access the foot crossing.
It is about a 7 minute walk from Wivelsfield Station which can be seen looking to the south from the crossing; to the North, Haywards Heath station can just about be seen through the tunnel in the distance.
Access is via a walk through the paths and fields of Bedelands Nature reserve or down the path from Valebridge road where parking is possible... but limited!

Railway type and traffic
Brighton Mainline: Southern, Thameslink and Gat-ex passenger trains running London to Brighton, and Southern trains from London to Eastbourne, Hastings and Ore, and Newhaven and occasionally to Seaford.
Some freight (not much) mainly the Newhaven aggregates to Acton ML most days, and the very occasional mainline steam.

Location Notes:
Berrylands is a station on the South-Western main line from London to Basingstoke.

Railway type and traffic
There is a half-hourly stopping service on the slow lines, usually class 455, and an intensive non-stop Fast Service, comprising of a variety of units, both DMU's and EMU's of South West Trains.

Location Notes:
Berwick Station is on the Eastbourne to Lewes line 8 miles west of Eastbourne and a mile or two north of the village it takes its name from.

Railway type and traffic
All regular trains on this line are EMUs, with half-hourly services to both Brighton and London. Class 171 DMUs may be seen sometimes on through Brighton to Ashford workings.

Bexley is a town located in South East London, located on the Sidcup line.

Majority of passenger workings are 465s and 376s. But class 59s/66s/60s, engineering trains sometimes use this line.

An open view of the line between Dartford and Hither Green. Taken from the A2 road bridge the location offers a view of the line with the parish church of St John of Bexley in the background.

Location Notes:
Birchington is a sea-side village near Margate in Kent. This location runs alongside Minnis Bay, and is on Chatham line, which is served by South Eastern Trains.

There are normally 2 trains each way every hour, and these are formed of South Eastern Electrostars these days.
However, every once in a while there are engineers trains, and steam charters.

Location Notes:
Birchington is a sea-side village near Margate in Kent. This location is close to Minnis Bay, and is on Chatham line, which is served by South Eastern Trains.

Location Notes:
Just north of Brighton this road bridge not only crosses the main railway line into Brighton from London but also crosses over the northern end of Lovers Walk Traincare Depot.

Class 319 (in many different liveries) and Class 377, there are a very limited amount of Virgin Class 220 workings but these services are due to be withdrawn.

Location Notes:
Broadstairs is in North Kent between Margate and Ramsgate on the Chatham Mainline.

The station sees regular South Eastern services to London Victoria, Charing Cross, Chatham, Margate and Ramsgate.

Location Notes:
This location is a footbridge connecting residential areas close to the centre of Bromley. This particular location is situated on the lines between Shortlands and Bromley South stations.

Railway type and traffic
Most passenger trains are operated by South Eastern Trains, featuring 375, 465 and 466.
Most freight workings are in the hands of DB Schenker 66 and 92s, although other workings can often provide a nice surprise!

Location Notes:
This location is a footbridge connecting residential areas close to the centre of Bromley. This particular location is situated on the lines between Shortlands and Bromley South stations.

TS610 - Bromley, Wendover Road Bridge

Location Notes:
A bridge located on the South Eastern Mainline out of Victoria/Blackfriars, just south of Bromley South Station, in South East London/Kent. It is a 5-10 minute walk from Bromley Town Centre, which has a large shopping centre called 'The Glades', plus the high street which has an extensive range of shops and larger stores.

Railway type and traffic
South Eastern Trains Classes 375/465/466, Eurostar 373s and the Pullman VSOE which runs a few times a week with class 67s.
Freightwise, DB Schenker Class 66/67/92. DRS Classes 20/37/47 once or twice a week on the Dungeness flask or stoneblower which passes through around 18:30. Note that these run as required and the days they run varies.

TS452 - Brookwood Station

Location Notes:
Brookwood Station is on the London to Basingstoke main line a few miles west of Woking.

Railway type and traffic
An intensive South West Trains service, mainly composed of Class 158, 159, 444, 450. Class 455s work as required through en-route between the Depots at East Wimbledon & Bourenmouth, 458/0 & 458/5 are very rare.
Also Colas worked engineers trains twice a day on weekday behind class 66/8 or 70/8 and a single train each way at present operated by GBRf behind a 66/7

TS1049 - Byfleet and New Haw Station

Location Notes:
A junction station on the southern main line to the Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth.
The line is west of the triangle from London and Chertsey/Virginia Water and Staines. If there is engineering works on the main line trains are often diverted via Staines and peel off here.

Railway type and traffic
Very busy, several trains per hour.
All current third rail EMUS, including a few DMUs running to non electric routes (Exeter).
Very occasionally the odd steam charter will pass straight through.
The Merehead to Woking stone passes through the station rising up to the junction.

TS21 - Camden Bank

Location Notes:
About a mile outside of Euston the location is the top of a long 1/100 climb out of the West Coast Main Lines London terminus.

Railway type and traffic
Mostly passenger traffic comes past but there is the occasional mail train.

TS163 - Camden Road

Location Notes:
Camden Road is a junction on the North London Line (NLL) that runs between Richmond and Stratford or diverges to the West Coast Main Line.

Railway type and traffic
There is a regular London Overground passenger service using dual voltage class 378 units.
The North London Line also acts as the northern cross London artery for freight with trains from East Anglia crossing to reach the West Coast Main Line or Great Western Main Line. Also a few hundred yards to the east there is a steeply graded curve joining to the East Coast Main Line.

TS920 - Canterbury East

Location Notes:
This is the less popular station at Canterbury, the other station being Canterbury West.

Railway type and traffic
There are generally two trains per hour to London Victoria via Chatham and Bromley South, and two trains per hour to Dover Priory. These will be formed of class 375 Electrostars.

TS382 - Canterbury West

Location Notes:
Canterbury West station is on the line from Ashford to Margate and Ramsgate direct (not via Dover), whilst Canterbury East station is on the line from Faversham to Dover. Canterbury itself is a popular tourist destination.
The signal box at the east end of the station is particularly noteworthy and is still in use, despite the partial resignallingof the route.
The station is now 'home' to the citys 'high speed' service run by South Eastern using class 395 units to London St Pancras.

Railway type and traffic
There are usually three trains per hour in each direction serving Canterbury West, these being two trains from Charing Cross to Ramsgate (portions that split from Dover trains at Ashford) and one terminating service from London Victoria via Maidstone. These are usually formed of class 375 units.
In addition to this The new St. Pancras High Speed services go to Ramsgate via Sturry and Minster and Magate via Ramsgate and Broadstairs.

TS1016 - Canterbury, Barton Down

Location Notes:
This 'relatively' quiet location is on the north-eastern edge of Canterbury, and lies on the Ashford-Ramsgate line.

Railway type and traffic
Apart from the occasional 465 unit, engineers train, or steam charter, all you are likely to see here are 375 Electrostars, operated by Southeastern.

TS253 - Carpenders Park

Location Notes:
A station on the DC lines approximately half way between Harrow & Wealdstone and Watford Junction on the West Coast Main Line, with clear views of all the AC electrified lines (fast lines being closest to the platform).

Railway type and traffic
Standard West Coast Main Line traffic.
Virgin Trains Pendolinod, London Overground 378s, Southern Class 319/377. Regular DB Schenker freight, Freightliner traffic also busy, mostly Class 66s and 92s, but others have been known to turn up. Being the West Coast Main Line, Saturdays are poor for freight after about 0830 in the morning and on Sundays it often a case that the trains are not running at all!

TS418 - Chertsey, Addlestone Moor

Location Notes:
Chertsey is on the line linking the London Waterloo to Reading line at Virginia Water with the main line to Basingstoke at Weybridge.

Railway type and traffic
There is a regular half-hourly local service from London Waterloo to Weybridge via Chertsey. There is also the occasional freight and engineers working.

Location Notes:
South London, on the 'Atlantic Line'.

Railway type and traffic
London Overground services between Clapham and Highbury & Islington call at the station. Southeastern services from Victoria to Kent pass by.
Many freight trains from the channel tunnel to the north.

TS181 - Clapham Junction

Location Notes:
South West London, on the main lines to Waterloo and Victoria.

Railway type and traffic
Britain's busiest railway station, during the peaks there are over 100 trains per hour using the 16 platforms, with some non stop trains too. A wide variety of South Central and South West Trains emus, South West Trains class 170 & 159 dmus, Gatwick Express, London Overground 378s.
Between the two halves of the station is Clapham Yard, used by South West Trains.
A small number of freight trains also pass through the station.

TS596 - Clayton Tunnel (north end)

Location Notes:
The tunnel is situated in the heart of the South Downs, so very rural. A few houses nearby plus the pub.

Railway type and traffic
The Brighton line is mainly run by 377s from Southern and 319s from First Capital Connect (formerly Thameslink) at a regular frequency of one every roughly 5 - 10 minutes in either direction. There are also two Voyagers each way every weekday and one on Saturday.

Freight is rare, and is usually just a Network Rail MUV or perhaps a 66 on a ballast working, but these workings are not often publicised.

Several enthusiast specials also visit every year.

TS803 - Colnbrook, A4 bridge

Location Notes:
Just to the west of Heathrow airport Colnbrook is a small village to the south of Slough.

Railway type and traffic
This is a freight only line to the oil terminal at it's end.
There are a small number of freights that use the branch. Traction will often include DB Schenker 60s or 66s, Freightliner 66s and Mendip 59s.

TS597 - Copyhold Junction

Location Notes:
The bridge straddles the Brighton main line roughly half way between the Ouse Valley viaduct and Haywards Heath station. The junction takes a freight only line to Ardingly stone terminal, and will hopefully one day also host Bluebell Railway steam trains. The locations is very rural, and is on a country lane so infrequent road traffic.

Railway type and traffic
The line is frequented by regular 377s from Southern and 319s from First Capital Connect (formerly Thameslink) at roughly 5 - 10 minute intervals for most of the day. There are also two daily Voyager workings in each direction from Brighton, and one on Saturdays. There are also infrequent MUV movements.

The freight is in the form of an ARC stone train from the Mendips to Ardingly and return. This is a weekly working, and usually arrives at Haywards Heath at around 08.30. The freight will pass the location behind (usually) a class 59 on the main line, then reverse back up the freight only line and round a sharp bend. It returns usually a few hours later off the spur, runs round at Haywards Heath and returns on the main line in the mid to late afternoon.

TS1040 - Cotton Lane Bridge, Stone, Kent

Location Notes:
This Location is between Dartford and Stone Crossing stations on the North Kent Line.

Railway type and traffic
Class 465 and Class 466 Networkers, on the odd occasion Class 375s can be seen on ECS runs/service trains, Class 376s do the occasional turn down to Gravesend.
Sercos with Class 37s usually visit the line every few months or so, you also have freight off Hoo Junction/Cliffe/Grain with Class 59s/66s, however class 60s do make the odd appearance and class 73s as well too with GBRF, you also have one off workings occasionally and Freightliner intermodals too.

TS50 - Coulsdon

Location Notes:
UPDATE Feb 05: This location has now changed dramtically. The bridge now has been moved and a wire mesh now encloses the walkway, thus rendering the locaiton no longer viable.
Update from Lester Hayes 12-11-04:

Smitham Station Car Park is currently closed and will be until January or February 2005. More importantly, on 25th & 26th December 2004 the existing footbridge is scheduled to be replaced by a new anti vandal type structure, which will make photography and simply watching the trains, much more difficult.
This work is in connection with the building of the Coulsdon By-pass. The existing bridge is in a structurally poor condition. The section over the old Coulsdon North Station site is supported by Jacks.

About 10 miles south of Central London, between Croydon and Redhill on the Brighton Main Line.

Railway type and traffic
Almost completely passenger trains, with South Central services from London to the South Coast, Gatwick Express, and South Eastern Trains from London to Tonbridge via Redhill. A few freight services pass by if you are lucky. Also a couple of Virgin Cross Country trains use this route. It is very busy with a train passing about every 3-4 minutes. Smitham station is very close with South Central suburban services.

TS894 - Craven Park

Location Notes:
A road bridge on a busy suburban street.

The line here is a freight only line between Cricklewood and Acton. There are only a few timetabled workings to use this line, but it is often used by test trains and stock movements between the Midland Main line and the south. To the north is the junction from Neasden, which allows access to the Marylebone lines west to either Amersham and Aylesbury or to High Wycombe and beyond.
Timetabled workings include the 'Binliner', some stone and cement workings and the Neasden FLHH traffic.

TS868 - Crome Road, Brent

Location Notes:
This location is a road way outside some houses with a small grass area between yourself and the line. There is a palisade fence between you and the location, but the line is on an embankment and as such is above the fence.

The line here is a freight only line between Cricklewood and Acton. There are only a few timetabled workings to use this line, but it is often used by test trains and stock movements between the Midland Main line and the south. Also to the north is the junction from Neasden, which allows access to the Marylebone lines west to either Amersham and Aylesbury or to High Wycombe and beyond.

TS1001 - Cuxton Station

Location Notes:
Cuxton is a quiet station on the Medway valley line between Strood and Maidstone. The station is only a mile from the Medway viaduct. And is served by Southeastern.

Railway type and traffic
During the day the station mostly sees Southeastern class 466s working the Medway Valley services. At times the odd 508 works ECS between Gillingham EMU depot and Tonbridge.
Freight and light engine movements do pass the station but not very frequently.

Location Notes:
Deal is a seaside location in East Kent, and is about halfway between Sandwich and Dover.

Class 375 Electrostars are generally all you see on the line these days, although the occasional charter and engineers train can be seen passing.

A very quiet station approx midway between Hastings and Rye on the Marshlink line.

Location Notes:
A foot bridge over the former Midland Goods Line in a large park in North London.

Location Notes:
Towards the end of Dungeness branch. Station building exists despite withdrawal of passenger traffic pre WW2.

TS930 - East Croydon, Hazledean Road

Location Notes:
As of June 2017 the car park is due to be demolished and the road bridge adapted for pedestrian use.


This location is a road bridge just to the south of the station.

Railway type and traffic
The nearby station is very busy, and sees regular services including London-Gatwick-Brighton, Gatwick-Bedford, and London Bridge-Uckfield. You can expect to see trains operated by Southern, South Eastern, Virgin, Gatwick Express, and First Capital Connect.

TS986 - Ebbsfleet Station

Location Notes:
A footbridge across HS1 near Ebbsfleet International Station in Kent, there is also views to be had from the nearby A226 road bridge.

Railway type and traffic
You will see Eurostars, either slowing for the station, accelerating from the station or passing through at 186mph!
Come 2010 there will be South Eastern Javelin trains running from the North Kent Line to St Pancras and underneath this bridge.

TS850 - Effingham Station

Location Notes:
Effingham Junction is on the inner suburban line form London Waterloo to Guildford. The line branches off here to Epsom and Leatherhead.

Railway type and traffic
A vast amount of SWT 455 emus as well as 444s and the occasional 450. In peak times Southern provide a class 319 service to Victoria and 1 to London Bridge.
There is very little regular freight Traffic.

TS372 - Eridge

Location Notes:
Eridge is on the line from Oxted to Uckfield and is located west of Tunbridge Wells. It used to be the junction for the line from Tunbridge Wells via Groombridge, part of which is now the Spa Valley Railway. This line used to join at Birchden Junction slightly north of Eridge. The current Uckfield line has been singled at this point with the two lines running parallel from Birchden to the station.

Railway type and traffic
The line is worked by Southern's 171 units. Working between Uckfield and London Bridge.
The Spa Valley Railway also operates to the station using a collection of steam and diesel locomotives.

Location Notes:
Faversham is a busy town in Kent. It is on the Chatham line between London Victoria and Margate. There are also services to Bromley, and down to Dover.

Most traffic these days is dominated by Class 375 and 465 units.

TS1200 - Ford Crossing, Albury

Location Notes:
Ford Crossing is deep in the Surrey Hills on the Guildford - Dorking Line adjacent to and north of the village of Albury. The nearest major town is Guildford and the location is off the A25.

Railway type and traffic
Usually just the normal passenger services (First Great Western Link services) operated by 165s.
Steam specials often use this line. The specials are usually circular tours (The Downsman and VSOE luncheon excursions) from London Victoria passing Guildford and Redhill and returning to Victoria via East Croydon. The line itself not electrified.

The marshes of the end of the River Arun and gently rolling farmland surround the virtually isolated station (but there is a pub there..!)

There are frequent ECS moves with the 508s and 465s.
Freight is not very frequent, the Sheerness steel workings (DB Schenker class 66 hauled) is the most common along with weekend engineering. Railtours pass by too.

There is a steady flow of cross London freight trains passing through the station.

Passenger services are in the hands of SWT, predominantly 444s with the odd 450, two fast trains each way per hour and one stopping train each way per hour. Also the Redhill line provides a frequent DMU, usually 168, shuttle.
The only freight is the Fawley - Holybourne tanks, which go north around 10:30 and return at around 15:00.

Classes 171, 319, 377, 455, 456. This is a mainline with plenty of traffic, but the best time to visit is in the morning or evening rush hours when there are trains every few minutes!

Update:Network Rail have been using the old yard, to the north of the road bridge, to stable and load the MPVs used throughout the area on RHTT, weedkilling and de-icing duties. You can normally see four or five of these sets clearly from the road bridge. There are also, more often than not, one or two track machines present.

Located in north London, in the Hampstead area of 'town' this location is a road bridge that crosses the Gospel Oak to Barking line at it's junction with the Midland Main Line.

The Gospel Oak to Barking line is usually worked by London Overground 150 units.
There is an amount of freight that uses the line, some climbing off the Midland Main Line, some from Gospel Oak.

Location Notes:
This location is on the West London Line, it is located on Tesco Kensington (Earls Court) Superstore, at the point where the A4 meets Warwick Road.

You can also see the Olympia Shuttle operated by the District Line.
Freight has a wide mix of traffic with most operators and types putting in an appearance during the day.

On the West London Line, West London. A primary route between north and south London.

Class 313 and 319 emus, a couple of Virgin Voyagers per day. Also London Underground District Line trains.

Location Notes:
Just to the north of Kings Cross station this location is on the freight only spur connecting the East Coast Main Line to the North London Line. The area is in a state of redevelopment at the moment, with the CTRL works into St Pancras all but complete now.
You can also see Midland Main Line workings coming out of St Pancras through the concrete and Eurostars should also be visible, although probably not photographable.

Probably also of note is the fact that you will be standing on, or close to, the original route of the Kings Cross Incline, the whole area having been rebuilt for the CTRL.

Railway type and traffic
There are no timetabled passenger workings and the freight is very much as required. Pretty much anything can travel up here from Serco Test Trains, Charters or diverted freights. But it will be on an ad hoc basis. So it is probably best to avoid turning up and waiting to see what passes!

TS682 - Knockholt Station

Location Notes:
Knockholt Station is near the small villages if Pratt`s Bottom and Chelsfield in Kent. Knockholt village itself is actually a few miles away. The area surrounding the station is very quiet.

Railway type and traffic
The line is between Charring Cross and Dover, and mainly see use of Class 375 and 465 units. Normally, there a stopping train every hour in each direction. This line also sees a little freight use, often seeing class 92s in action.

TS588 - Littlehampton Station

Location Notes:
Situated on the South Coast, on a branch which exits, via a triangular junction, the 'West Coastway' line between Brighton and Portsmouth.
Station has two two-faced island terminal platforms, platforms 1&2 are 12-car length whilst platform 3 takes 8 cars and platform 4 takes 6 cars. The station itself has two pairs of semaphore bracket signals, one for each platform pair. The rest of the branch is colour-light-signalled. The station building and short canopies are (reasonably) modern except for a part of the original engine shed behind platform 4 and the former goods shed, not now in railway use, adjacent to platform 1.

Passenger-only branch of approximately 1.5 miles length serving small seaside town. Regular train type is 377s, MPVs may also visit 'in season'. Also the occasional railtours.

Location Notes:
Euston station is located in the London Borough of Camden, and is in Central London. The station is the southern terminus of the West Coast Main Line.

No freight is to been seen here, as it is a terminus, however there is a wide variety of passenger trains.
Virgin 390s operate WCML services to places like Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow etc.
A few Holyhead trains are operated by Voyagers, although usually a Pendolino.

London Midland Desiros run semi-fast services to Rugby, Coventry etc.
London Overground 378s operate stopping services to Watford Junction.

Scotrail sleepers can be seen here once or twice a day, and these are usually pulled by GBRf 92s with ECS moves performed by 86 or 87s.

The NMT also visits Euston on a weekly basis, usually on a Tuesday Evening.

This location is just to the west of the Station. The station is on the Chatham line, and sees South Eastern services between London Victoria and Ramsgate.

Location Notes:
Northfleet station is on the North Kent Line between Dartford and Gravesend. The station is 400 metres from the recently opened Ebbsfleet International station.

The station has a good variety of both freight and passenger units. South Eastern classes 376, 465 and 466s serve the station and at times speed pass.
Freight-wise you get Freightliner 66s and DB Schenker 59s 60s and 66s passing by light engine and with freight.

Location Notes:
Tennison Road bridge crosses one of the main commuter lines into London. The bridge is situated between Selhurst Depot and Norwood Junction in the South-East of London.

Railway type and traffic
The main stay of traffic is Southern EMUs including 455s, 456s and 375,s and also Southern DMUs in the form of 171s these all get serviced in Selhurst Depot.
SET 508s and 375s work an hourly service though to London Bridge plus Thameslink 319s work though trains to Brighton. Selhurst also sees departmental train stabled which are operated by 31s, 37s and on occasions 73s, most of these come out at night but the Serco Test train usually enters during the daylight hours.
Southern also have 2 Ex-Railtrack De-icers which are used in the depot for shunting and De-icing and can be seen moving around on occasions.

Location Notes:
Situated right next to Old Oak Common depot, on the North London Line just west of Willesden, covering the lines going down Acton bank and the line round to Richmond. The lines to Dudding Hill and the West London line to Kensington Olympia do not pass under here.

From here the majority of traffic is London Overground 378s, and also the voyager services heading to/from Brighton and Reading.
Several booked freights into Acton Yard can yield 59s, 60s or 66s. The occasional special / esc working will turn up.

A footbridge over the Otford to Maidstone East railway in a rural setting but close to the M26.

'I attempted to get there today from Otford Station, The last part of the walk after you pass over the M26 motorway bridge is a bit of a nightmare are the field is a virtual quagmire. I returned back to the station.'

Location Notes:
Pevensey and Westham station is located 5 miles east of Eastbourne on the line to Hastings.

Regular services with class 377s. There is a regular service of 3/4 trains per hour, though not all stop at Pevensey and Westham.

TS1081 - Pirbright, Curzon Bridge

Location Notes:
Curzon Bridge is in a forest about a mile from Brookwood Station. It is just after Pirbright Junction, where the Aldershot branch line bears away from the South Western Main Line. The location is next to Pirbright ATC, the bridge itself being a back door entry point. It is not used for cars, although the Army marches out of there occasionally.

Railway type and traffic
You will get your fair share of Desiros and 159s. Steam Tours are also usually routed along the SWML, and can be seen here too.
Freight is limited, although when the Great Western Main Line is closed from Reading onwards it is diverted through here. This freight is Class 66 hauled, although the daily Enterpirse has been 60 hauled once or twice.

TS1083 - Pirbright, Deepcut Locks Bridge

Location Notes:
The bridge is in a forest over a cutting near Pirbright. The bridge takes a footpath over it down to the Basingstoke Canal, and also serves as a driveway to a nearby mansion.

Railway type and traffic
444/450 on SWT 3rd rail services to Basingstoke and beyond, 158/159 on SWT diesel services to the West of England.
Some freight services (around 3 or 4 a day) although when there is a blockade on the GWML it can be used as a diversionary route, which usually happens on Saturdays. Steam tours are also frequent on the line.

TS807 - Pulborough station

Location Notes:
Pulborough station is situated on the Arun valley line between Horsham and Ford Junction in West Sussex. Services run at approximately half-hourly intervals linking London (Victoria) with the south coast - Littlehampton, Bognor and Portsmouth.

Passenger services are exclusively in the hands of class 377 EMUs.
There are no freight services timetabled over the Arun Valley line, however engineering trains - more often than not DB Schenker or GBRf 66 hauled - are not unknown at weekends. You will also experience the seasonal visits of the Network Rail MPVs on a variety of duties and the odd special - the Cathedral's Express or Goodwood Raceday trains - does crop up from time to time.

Location Notes:
On the Brighton Main Line between East Croydon and Redhill.

Railway type and traffic
Mostly passenger services between London and the South coast via Gatwick Airport, also local suburban units. Freight consists of aggregate trains from the adjacent stone terminal.

TS766 - Quarry Tunnels (North End), Hooley

Location Notes:
An over bridge over the main lines from London to Gatwick and Brighton. The cutting the lines are in is very deep, and consequentially you get a very high angle. The fast and slow lines are in separate cuttings at this point having split at Stoats Nest Junction. The slow lines being, at this point, on the west.

Frequent electric multiple units belonging to Thameslink and South Central Trains.
Either class 319s, and newer Electrostars. Also the frequent Gatwick Express shuttle is handled mainly by class 460s.

Location Notes:
This is a busy area just to the west of Ramsgate station and maintenance depot.
Trains to the capital run through here, as do trains to Ashford via Canterbury, and services to Dover.

Location Notes:
The line is in the south west of London, near Wimbledon, and not to far from Clapham Junction. It is situated on the mainlines from London Waterloo going to places like Alton, Basingstoke and Portsmouth.

The railway has a branch line diverting of from both sides of the line (one coming in and one going out). There are 2 slow lines and 2 fast lines through the station.

This is a bridge over the Midland Main Line north of Elstree and Borehamwood Station.

Redhill is served by five different Train Operating Companies so there is a wide variety of passenger traffic. Freight traffic is, however, very rare. With only a few trains to and from Crawley.

Richborough is a quiet location in Kent. The line here is between Minster and Sandwich. Remains of the old East Kent Light Railway can be found here. Remains of an old fort are also in this area.

Location Notes:
Rochester station is in the heritage town of Rochester, the station is located near the high street. The station is along the Chatham mainline and is served by South Eastern (Nov 2006).

10 trains per hour pass through the station. The passenger services are worked by South Eastern classes 375, 465, 466 with the odd class 376 moving to Gillingham depot.
Infrequent freight passes the station, these are usually hauled by DB Schenker 66s. Also in Autumn you can see a few Network Rail RHTT trains passing by.

Location Notes:
A Station with a footbridge over the busy East Croydon to Gatwick Airport and Brighton main line.

The former are class 319s, the latter Electrostars. Thames 165s also operate from Reading to Gatwick along with occasional Virgin Voyagers to Brighton.
Finally the frequent Gatwick Express shuttle can be seen passing through, usually in the hands of 442 units.

TS888 - Shakespeare Tunnel

Location Notes:
The location is a public footbridge between Shakespeare Tunnel and the old site of Dover Western Dock Yard. The nearest town is Dover and the docks can be seen from this location.

Railway type and traffic
This is the main line out of Dover towards Folkestone and on to the capital, the main stay of traffic are 375s, but the odd tour and engineers train go this way along with the almost bi-monthly visit of DRS 37s on the Serco.
Due to the twin bore, single line, nature of the tunnels the line is limited to what can operate. There needs to be an emergency exit at the end of the train, therefore no passenger train can go though being Top and Tailed.

TS598 - Shalford

Location Notes:
Located in Surrey, near Guildford. The station is not far from the junction south of Guildford, Shalford station is on the line that branches off east towards Redhill.

Railway type and traffic
Usually just the normal passenger services (First Great Western Link services) operated by 165s. Steam specials often arrive at Shalford and stop, for approx. 40 minutes, whilst they have their tenders refilled with water from an ex fire engine. The steam specials are usually circular tours (The Downsman and VSOE luncheon excursions) from London Victoria passing Guildford and Redhill and returning to Victoria via East Croydon. The line itself is un-electrified.

TS1012 - Sheperdswell Station

Location Notes:
Shepherdswell is a quiet rural village in East Kent, situated around 10 minutes from Dover, on the London Victoria to Dover line. It is between Canterbury East and Dover Priory, and is also home to the East Kent Railway.
If you are interested in heritage electric multiple units and diesel locomotives, Shepherdswell is the ideal place to visit, as the East Kent Railway is right opposite the mainline station. It is around a 1 minute walk to the main gate, where you will find the site and rolling stock.
The mainline station is reasonably quiet, with the odd person turning up each hour.

The line is not good at all for freight, however the odd engineers train can be seen from time to time. SouthEastern Trains operate hourly stopping services to the station on most days, using class 375 or occasionally class 465 units.

TS1079 - Shepherds Bush, Westfields

Location Notes:
A road over bridge over the west London line just to the north of Kensington Olympia. The location is on one of the entrance road ways to the 'Westfields' shopping centre.

Railway type and traffic
The West London line is the main traffic artery taking traffic from the West Coast and North London lines at Willesden and taking them to the south at Clapham Junction. Passenger traffic consists of London Overground 313s and Southern 377s.
Freight traffic is varied and quite frequent with working from all the major operators.

This location is a footbridge to the South-east of Shortlands Station.

TS1244 - Silkstream Junction, Hendon

Location Notes:
A road bridge over the Midland Main Line. This location is at the point where freight only lines fly over the main passenger routes. These freight lines continue south, or heads north from, Cricklewood where they diverge away from the Midland Main line and continue south east to Acton. This is the standard route for freight heading this way although there are two more junctions to the south of the bridge where freight may join the main lines. The flyover is not electrified.

Railway type and traffic
On the main lines you have the usual mix of EMT Meridians, HSTs. There are also First Capital Connect 319s and 377s.
Freight consists of mainly aggregate traffic (Stone/Cement) but also includes Oil traffic.

Location Notes:
The station is in a large residential area on the southern edge of Croydon, approx 3 minutes south of East Croydon on the Brighton line.

Railway type and traffic
Mostly the trains are Southern and Gatwick Express EMUs, with a few First Capital Connect and SouthEastern trains services. There are also DMUs on Uckfield services. Trains are fairly regular at this point, arguably one of the busiest points on the Brighton line.
Freight is infrequent with workings to Purley, Ardingly, Crawley and Kent via. Redhill.

This location is a footbridge just to the north of the station.

Location Notes:
A small station on the Perivale/Greenford West London Line.

A quiet 'Branch' type line, with passenger services operated by First Great Western Link 165s. The Greenford loop is also frequently used to turn stock from Old Oak Common, ECS HSTs and Adelantes.
Freight wise expect 59/1s, 59/2s, 60s, 66/0s, 66/6s, 67s, 165s.

Location Notes:
In a quiet area with a residential area one side of the line and parkland the other. Located between South Kenton on the West Coast Main Line and Northwick Park on the Metropolitan Line. NOTE - One thing that you must be aware of is the potential to get bowled at this location. There are often four or five lines between your camera and a freight train...so bowling potential is very high.

    Location Notes:
    This location is near to the small Kent village of St. Nicholas at Wade. The line here is between Chatham and Margate.

    However, every once in a while there are engineers trains, and steam charters.

    TS370 - Stockenden Farm

    Location Notes:
    Stockenden Farm is just south of Oxted on the line to Uckfield.

    Railway type and traffic
    The line is worked by Southern's new 171 units, having replaced the 'Thumpers' at the end of 2004. There is an hourly service throughout the day shuttling between Oxted and Uckfield using 2 units, with additional peak-time workings to London Bridge. There are plans for all journeys to extend to London when sufficient units become available.

    Location Notes:
    Small town in South West London, nearest main town would be Twickenham or Richmond. The station is on the line between Teddington and Twickenham.

    Usual traffic consists of Class 455s on trains to Waterloo via Richmond or via Kingston along with the occasional set of empties into Strawberry Hill Traincare Depot and in the peaks trains to Shepperton which have come via Richmond.

    Sturry is a village in Kent, just to the north of Canterbury, on the Ashford to to Ramsgate line.

    Location Notes:
    Swalecliffe is on the Chatham line which is served by South Eastern Trains, and is just outside Whitstable, Kent. The nearest railway station is Chestfield & Swalecliffe.

    TS453 - Syon Lane

    Location Notes:
    A footbridge just to the west of Syon Lanes Station.
    Syon Lane is on the Hounslow Loop line. It is situated just south of the A4 (Great West Road) near the famous Gillette Corner, Isleworth, Middlesex.

    Railway type and traffic
    There is a 30 minute service to and from Waterloo featuring mainly 450 Desiros & 455's. A handful of freights to and from the former LSWR region use this cross London route.
    In addition to scheduled freight workings, several times a week this line is used for all sorts of one off workings like rolling stock transfers from Eastleigh etc. Keep and eye on the various GEN lists.

    TS1130 - Teston Open Fields

    Location Notes:
    This location is on the Medway Valley Line between East Farleigh and Wateringbury which is also the nearest Station, about 1.5 miles away. The Nearest town is Maidstone which is about 5 miles away. If you are not a keen walker I would advise driving. In winter months the field can flood badly and access is impossible.

    Railway type and traffic
    Usual Traffic is the 466 units running between Strood and Paddock Wood. There is a unit between Quarter past and 35 minutes past the Hour.
    Freight traffic comprises of a DB Schenker 66 on the Purley - Cliffe in the Evening (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) On Weekends, there is usualy a good flow of Engineers trains which are generally hauled by First GBRF 66s and 73s or DB Schenker 66s There are also Loco Convoys consisting of GBRF Locos which run to and from Hoo Junction and Tonbridge West Yard and St Leonards Depot. (Monday/Friday). There are also the occasional freight divert.

    TS562 - Tonbridge

    Location Notes:
    The station is on the main line from London to the Kent Coast and at the junction of the Tunbridge Wells and Hastings line and also the line from Redhill via. Godstone, and is approximately half-way from London and Dover.
    A permanent way depot has been opened to the east of the station. It can easily be viewed from the station car park.

    Railway type and traffic
    Frequent 375s and 465s, with an hourly 377 from Horsham, the occasional Channel Tunnel freight.

    TS889 - Tonbridge West Yard

    Location Notes:
    The footbridge over Tonbridge West Yard also crosses the Tonbridge to Redhill line, from the bridge you can see Tonbridge Station and also the main line towards the capital. The lines are a busy commuter route plus a minor freight line. The yard it self has seen better day and is now just used mainly for engineering trains. The site is in the heart of West Kent and see a various amount of traffic.

    Railway type and traffic
    Most of the traffic in this area uses the line that curves to the north from the station towards London, but there is a half hourly service in both direction on the Redhill line, this includes Southern 377 covering the Tunbridge Wells to Horsham route and SET 375 and 508 covering the Tunbridge Wells to London Bridge services. Southern and SWT use the Redhill line to convey EMUs to Chart Leacon for servicing and 455s, Gat Ex and also the 3 CIGs have been seen.
    OTP equipment is also seen on route to Ashford Depot. The yard itself has the usual suspects, GBRF owned 73207 has sat on the loco spur for a number of months now, also NR snowploughs and GLVs (De-icers) are based in the yard along with NR 73212 + 73213. GBRF also uses the yard to hold locos and this includes 66/7s and EDs. DB Schenker also use the yard and it is possible to see 66s, 59s, 60s and 67s.
    But a word of warning the yard can be completely empty at time with only the usual suspects on view and other times it can be jam packed, when there is engineering work near by the yard is used to run round, so trains can access Hoo junction via the Medway Valley Line.. the bridge also crosses Jubilee Sidings where SET store 375s, 465s and 508s, and some times the VSOE hauled by DB Schenker 67s may stop over.

    TS891 - Tonbridge, Bardon Road

    Location Notes:
    This is a public footbridge that crosses the main line to London from Hastings and Ashford, it is one of the main commuter lines from the South-East and also used for some of the freight to and from Dollands Moor. It is just on the curve of the line to the North-West of Tonbridge.

    Railway type and traffic
    The majority of the traffic is SET 375s and 465s with the occasional tour including the VSOE.
    Freight is a mixture of DB Schenker 66s, 59s and 92s with 59s to Allington, 92s to Dollands Moor and 66s on engineering trains, GBRF opperate the Gypsum trains to and from Mountfield (on the Hastings Line) and also engineering trains, and DRS 37s and 20s work the Dungeness flasks and the test trains. Various engineering trains use Tonbridge to get to Hoo Junction when there is engineering work in the area.

    TS1204 - Tovil Crossing

    Location Notes:
    This bridge is in the town of Maidstone on the Medway Valley Line. This line runs between Tonbridge and Strood.

    Railway type and traffic
    Passenger - everyday, there is a good diet of Southeastern EMUs, with Classes 466, 465 and 375 all using this section of the line. However, Southeastern Class 395 (Highspeed Javelins) EMUs terminate at Maidstone West during the weektime peak,about a quarter of a mile east of the crossing, meaning this class does not ever reach this location.
    Freight - (WEEKDAYS) There is a variety of freight which passes the location, the earliest of which is around 05:00 which runs to Allington Stone Terminal further down the line on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. This is usually class 59 or 66 opperated. Also running on these same days is a DB Schenker run stone train from Purley agregatte works to Cliffe. This is usualy between 10:00 and 11:00, as it can run both early and late. Traction for this is usually class 66. Both of these workings are heading east, the latter being particularly good for shots as the sun is in the best position at this time of day.
    On a Monday, GBRf run a small convoy of class 73s and 66s from Hoo Junction to Tonbridge yard, heading west. This runs in the same timescale as the DB Schenker stone train.
    Also on weekends are regular Ballast and Engineers trains running down the line between various possesions and Hoo Junction Yard. These can be worked by either DB Schenker of GBRf, and run at any time either on Saturday or Sunday.

    'Royal' Tunbridge Wells is a town in Kent, and the station is on the Hastings line.

    Bloors Lane Footbridge is on the Chatham mainline in Twydall between Gillingham and Rainham, it is 1 mile from Rainham station.

    Passenger services are mostly run by Southeastern classes 375 and 465/9s, there are also ECS moves with classes 466s and 508s to and from the Sheerness Branch line.
    There is an infrequent freight that can run on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, this is handled by an DB Schenker class 66.

    Location Notes:
    A classic shot of Victoria station arrivals with the former Battersea Power station in the background. This location is just a few minutes walk from Victoria Station, just near the entrance of the Police Station.

    Location Notes:
    South Central London, around 2 miles from Victoria. In a complex area of track work near Stewarts Lane and in close proximity to many stations (Overground, Underground) and buses.

    Passenger:
    Southern 456 regular, occasional 377 working on the Victoria - London Bridge. Parliamentary 377/4 service to and from Kensington Olympia once daily. Southeastern Class 465, 466, 375 and occasional 376. Class 508s have a regular ECS to Gillingham and back.
    The majority of freight is runs between 10:00 - 15:00, but it certainly a 24 hour location.
    DB Schenker 59 and 66, Hanson 59, Aggregate Industries 59, Occasional Saturdays Only (Q) Class 60, Freightliner Class 66, GBRf Class 73 or 66, Colas Class 47 and 56 (when operable) and regular DRS Class 37 on Dungeness workings.
    It is also one of the few places in London you can still see a class 37/4 in regional rail colours... A mural on the station ramp!

    Location Notes:
    Waterloo East is between London Bridge and Charing Cross.

    You will only see EMUs at this location, mainly 411, 421s and 423s but 465s, 466s and 375s are not uncommon. Services are very frequent.

    TS749 - Watery Lane Bridge

    Location Notes:
    The bridge is situated on the edge of Lyne and is on the loop line between Virginia Water and Weybridge (passenger) and Byfleet and New Haw (freight).

    Railway type and traffic
    Half hourly passenger trains are operated by Southwest Trains using Class 450 Desiro units. VSOE trains, both steam and diesel, regularly use the route.
    Freight consists of day time engineer’s services between Eastleigh and Hoo Junction. An Enterprise service from Eastleigh to Wembley. Both are operated by DB Schenker. In the afternoon there are empty Gypsum containers from Mountfield to Southampton by GBRf and from January 2007 a Crewe to Southampton Freightliner.
    The loop is regularly used at weekends for diverted main line services when there is engineering work between Weybridge and Clapham Junction.The Neasden to Wool sand empties are also routed this way.

    TS509 - Watery Lane, Chertsey

    Location Notes:
    Chertsey is on the line linking the London Waterloo to Reading line at Virginia Water with the main line to Basingstoke at Weybridge. This location is an ex-road bridge over the Weybridge to Virginia Water line, near Chertsey.

    There is a regular half-hourly local service from London Waterloo to Weybridge via Chertsey. There is also the occasional freight and engineers working.

    TS191 - West Brompton Station

    Location Notes:
    West Brompton station is located in front of the famous Earls Court Exhibition Centres. It is on the West London Line and the Wimbledon branch of the District Line.

    Platforms 1/2 are the Underground Platforms so you will find D78 stocks on Upminsters and C69/77/08 stocks on Edgware Road-Wimbledon services.

    TS553 - West Drayton, Colnbrook branch

    Location Notes:
    West London, at the start of the Colnbrook branch, just off the Great Western main line. Track is single and runs through a yard. Level crossing is on the entrance road to the ARC terminal.
    NOTE - There is no actual fence between the access road and the branch line or even the Great Western main line. The only sort of dividing line is a short row of poles with ballast right behind. STICK TO THE ROAD. Several trains are often left unattended right in front of you and getting near to them could cause concern amongst train crews that you are trying to do something with the train.

    Railway type and traffic
    A sparsely used freight branch. The Colnbrook - Acton Yard boxes which, currently Jan '06, head out around 08:30 in the morning. The Thorney Mill - Bardon Hill Freightliner aggregates train just before lunchtime. The Colnbrook - Lindsey tanks a couple of times each week in the mid afternoon.

    TS536 - West Ealing

    Location Notes:
    A small West London station on the Great Western Mainline near Ealing Broadway where the Greenford loop snakes off.

    Railway type and traffic
    Wide variety of passenger and freight can be seen:

    Passenger: Regular IETs and HSTs, 165/166 DMUs and 332/360 and 387 EMUs

    Freight: DB Schenker 59/60/66/67, Freightliner Heavy Haul 66s, GBRf 66s, Stone/sand/fuel/binliner/scrap trains...

    There are also many stock moves to and from Old Oak Common is seen heading on/off the Greenford Loop to gain access to Old Oak Common.

    TS185 - West Hampstead Thameslink

    Location Notes:
    An urban area, in London. On the Midland MainLine about 4 miles north of St. Pancras.

    Railway type and traffic
    Thameslink operate stopping and non-stopping services using Class 319s. Midland MainLine services pass though the station and use HSTs, 170s and soon to be 222s.
    Freight is mainly Diesel-powered - Class 60s and 66s.

    TS846 - West Worthing

    Location Notes:
    West Worthing is situated on the Southern West Coastway line in West Sussex, England.
    Worthing is located to the east, this is the main station which serves the town of Worthing and is just about visible from the eastbound platform.
    West Worthing is a busy station, it has a middle siding to the west of the station where some trains terminate. They then reverse onto the Brighton bound line where the train forms a stopping service to Brighton.
    There used to be a carriage shed to the west of the station on the north side, however this was demolished in early 2008. The disused sidings however still remain, although the future of the site is uncertain.
    Durrington-On-Sea station can just about be seen on both platforms to the west as the line curves round toward Portsmouth.

    Railway type and traffic
    Passenger traffic is mainly Class 377's and Class 313's, although there are a few long distance services each day between Brighton and the West Country, these are worked by Class 158's and occasionally Class 150's.
    There are a few VSOE workings throughout the year, these are normally hauled by Class 67's and destinations vary between Hove and Chichester. In addition there is also the odd railtour or steam special as well.
    Freight traffic is irregular and usually Class 66 or Class 73 hauled engineering trains. These can sometimes be seen passing through on weeknights, early weekday mornings or at weekends. There are also very occasional light engine workings.
    Network Rail test trains make an appearance every now and then. MPV's can be seen passing through on sandite or de-icing duties 'in season'.

    TS1022 - Westbere, Stour Valley

    Location Notes:
    Westbere is a small village in Kent. The Canterbury to Ramsgate line runs through here.

    Railway type and traffic
    Most traffic is Class 375 units on Charring Cross - Ramsgate/Margate services. There are also less frequent services which take the line down to Dover from here.

    TS620 - Westenhanger

    Location Notes:
    On the Ashford - Folkestone line, about seven miles east of Ashford. The CTRL runs parallel. Nearest towns: Ashford, Hythe, Folkestone.

    Railway type and traffic
    Passenger traffic on the 'classic' line is dominated by class 375 EMUs (2 per hour off-peak) and very little else will be seen. Eurostars pass on the adjacent CTRL. Occasional railtours.
    Some freight operates to Dollands Moor.

    TS217 - Weybridge Station

    Location Notes:
    Weybridge is a busy junction and commuter town. It is on the former London and South Western mainline to Southampton and beyond. Weybridge has had a station since 1838.

    Railway type and traffic
    Very busy, several trains per hour, the the line to Staines via Addlestone also see 2 trains each way per hour.
    Mainly 444/450, but a few 159s running to non electric routes (Exeter).
    Very occasionally the odd steam charter (rather than taking the Chertsey loop) will pass straight through Weybridge - see fig 1. UK Steam Info can be helpfull here along with SE Gen Yahoo E group.
    No freight, but occasional late night engineering workings.

    TS842 - Whitstable

    Location Notes:
    Whitstable is a busy sea-side town. The line here is the Chatham line which is served by South Eastern Trains. There is a railway station at Whitstable, but this location is to the west of the station.

    There are normally 2 trains each way every hour, and these are formed of South Eastern Electrostars these days.
    However, every once in a while there are engineers trains, and steam charters.

    Location Notes:
    Whitstable is a busy sea-side town. The line here is the Chatham line which is served by South Eastern Trains. There is a railway station at Whitstable, but this location is to the west of the station.

    TS221 - Willesden Junction High Level

    Location Notes:
    A footbridge from ground level, just to the south of Willesden Junction station. Forming a hub of rail lines, below is the West Coast Main Line and you can see trains coming from Euston. Diverging off is a line to Kensington Olympia and onwards to Clapham Junction, Brighton, etc. Also running parallel and level to the bridge is the North London Line.

    Railway type and traffic
    Passenger traffic is in the hands of London Overground 378s. There is also frequent freight services passing through. You also can see the West Coast Main Line and the Low Level lines.

    TS451 - Wimbledon, Elm Grove

    Location Notes:
    A narrow footbridge between a residential suburb of Wimbledon and a trading estate. Situated on the Waterloo - Woking and Wimbledon - Sutton lines.

    Railway type and traffic
    Lots of South West Trains (units basically), you will find a lot of Class 450, 455 and plenty Classes 159, 442, 444 a few Class 170 and occasional the Class 458.
    The Thameslink services using the eastern most lines are in the hands of Class 319s, while Southern operate peak hour trains over these lines with Class 455 / 456.

    TS547 - Woking, York Road

    Location Notes:
    Located, in Surrey, on the mainline from Waterloo which splits at Woking heading to either Portsmouth or Basingstoke.

    Railway type and traffic
    The mainline from Waterloo splits at Woking, one towards Portsmouth via Guildford and one to towards Southampton and Exeter via Basingstoke. York Road is a public footpath that crosses over both mainlines and commands a view of the station and yards.
    Traffic from Waterloo heading for Portsmouth, Southampton or Exeter.
    Mainly SWT EMUs - 442, 444, 450. Occasional 159s. 66 on odd freight and 60 now and again on stone to the Down Yard.

    TS798 - Worth, Blue Pigeon crossing

    Location Notes:
    Worth is a small Kent village near to Sandwich, on the line running between Minster and Dover.

    Railway type and traffic
    Class 375 Electrostars are generally all you see on the line these days, although the occasional charter and engineers train can be seen passing.

    Location Notes:
    Worthing is situated along the Southern West Coastway line in West Sussex, England.
    West Worthing is located to the west of the station and is just about visible from the eastbound platforms.
    The main town centre is south of the station and is within walking distance, other options of getting there are by bus from the nearby bus stops or by taxi as there are taxi ranks at the front of the station.
